Print size to pixels
Pixels needed = print size in inches × DPI. A 4×6 in print at 300 DPI needs 1,200 × 1,800 pixels. The chart below works this out for common photo, paper and poster sizes.

Which DPI to use
300 DPI is a common target for photo prints and documents that are looked at up close.
Posters are seen from further away, and 150 DPI is a common choice for them. Check your print service's own guidance before you order.
DPI only describes how pixels are spread on paper. Changing the DPI number in a file's metadata does not add detail; only the pixel count matters.
When your image is too small
Enhance.Place's online image upscaler enlarges a JPG, PNG or WebP photo 2× or 4× for free. It accepts files up to 6 MB and images up to 8 MP and 8,192 px on the longest side, and the result can be up to 32 MP. That means 2× works for images up to 8 MP and 4× for images up to 2 MP.
The model estimates texture as it enlarges an image, so check faces, edges and text against the original: plausible detail is not necessarily accurate. The online tool uploads your image for processing.
